Target, Others Drop Apple iPod Prices, New Ones Coming? Various retailers are offering discounts on Apple's iPod lineup, with Target advertising a "temporary price cut" for almost every MP3 player produced by Cupertino.
Apple typically holds a music-related event each September to unveil its next-generation iPods, so the cuts could mean that retailers are trying to ditch older models in order to make room for new ones. But Apple has altered its usual release schedule this year, failing to unveil a new iPhone in June.
As a result, Apple watchers are waiting for the company to drop an invite to its next event any day now, which will likely include the release of the iPhone 5, as well as new iPods. Thus far, Apple has made no announcements, though, leading us to speculate about things like iPod price decreases.
On that front, Target is offering the deepest cuts at the moment, though it's not exactly a fire sale. Buyers can save $25, $20, and $30 on the iPod touch. For a limited time, the 8GB is $204.99, the 16GB is $274.99, and the 32GB is $364.99.
Buyers can also save $10 on a blue, pink, orange, or green 8GB iPod nano, which is selling for $134.99. The 16GB iPod nano, as well as other color options for the 8GB, are currently out of stock.
If you're buying an iPod shuffle, meanwhile, you'll only save $1, with the price now at $44.99.
The iPod classic is not on sale, though at $245, it's $4 less than buying it via Apple's Web site, which is not listing any iPod sale prices.
Best Buy, meanwhile, is also selling the 8GB iPod touch for $204.99, a $25 savings. The 32GB and 64GB models are still $299.99 and $399.99, respectively. The retailer is also offering $3 off the iPod shuffle, and $10 off the 8GB and 16GB iPod nano (though the 16GB pink one is out of stock online).
At Walmart.com, you can get the 8GB iPod touch for $13 off and the 32GB for $279.98, down from $299.99. The retailer is sold out of the 64GB version, though. The iPod shuffle is $46, also a $3 savings, and the 8GB iPod nano is $134.54 (down from $149 on the Apple Web site); there doesn't appear to be a 16GB nano option.
